Job Description

As an intern in Microchip's global Technical Support team, you will assist customers through technical challenges and provide expert knowledge of Microchip's tools, products and solutions.

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide technical assistance to customers on Microchip’s development tools
  • Analyze customer feedback, reporting product defects & improvements discovered during the support process
  • Working with mentor on technical support activity related to 1-3 targeted areas of embedded focus
  • Executing on customized development plan targeted to building embedded knowledge
  • Supporting sales team with support related activities
  • Drive root cause solutions to technical problems
  • Satisfy customers with quality answers
  • Phone/VM support

Educational Requirements:

  • Junior or Senior in BS program in relevant engineering discipline (or graduate program) required.  (e.g. Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, etc)

Technical Requirements:

  • Embedded debugging and problem solving skills
  • Some knowledge of C/C++
  • At least 1 completed embedded project that used a microcontroller

Social Skill Set Requirements:

  • Ability to project confidence in yourself and Microchip
  • Ability to use empathy to reduce tension with difficult clients
  • Ability to negotiate to find the best course of action
  • Natural tendency to demonstrate patience for clients who need help
  • Team player mentality
  • Ethical business mindset
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Comfortable calling clients by phone
  • Ability to receive feedback and adjust accordingly

Desirable Characteristics:

  • Prior client support experience
  • Strong interest in development of embedded skills and business acumen
  • Familiarity with Salesforce
  • Fluency in C/C++
  • Familiarity with Microchip development tools/IDEs
  • Familiarity with Microchip product lines

Desirable Competencies:

Communication: Ability to listen and understand what is being asked about very technical questions.  Ability to synthesize information and reframe technical discussions
Time Management: Ability to manage multiple customer engagements, learning efforts, and other responsibilities during the same day
