Job Description



  • Help the UK Region to provide technical support to new and existing clients
  • Work with Marcom to develop new customer demonstration units (currently Red wedges – new format TBC)

  • Keep accurate records of support cases and resolutions

  • Debug and Repair of demonstration units and kits.

  • Assist with specific customer projects, guided by their Mentor. Provide data to allow the Mentor to focus on projects with the highest potential ROI.

  • Accompany ESE’s on customer visits to gain knowledge of the Microchip Sales Process

  • Gain experience of technical customer exposure by phone and email, guided by field ESE’s

  • Deal with some incoming technical calls to the UK office and where necessary direct to the appropriate resource.

  • Some opportunity to align with the CAE Team to aid in support of tickets once the necessary level of expertise is gained.

The role in more detail:

Providing Technical Support

Guidance on specific support topics and questions will be given by the mentor and field based ESE’s, this would start with more simple questions – generally answerable by datasheet referencing, or creating of a simple example software project or similar.

Overt time this would develop to more complex issues, utilising factory/BU support where necessary and implementing what has been learned in earlier cases.

Project Based Skills

Currently the Red Wedges are utilised for customer and trade show demos – the Intern will aid in the development and creation/maintenance of the Red Wedge Demo.  Both from a hardware and software perspective.

Specific Customer demos can also be created where the ROI is deemed to meet company expectations.


As well as the on the job training, there will be the opportunity to join targeted ESE trainings, both on and off site.  This could be Function group lead, or area of interest, dependant on current projects and on going support cases.

Course Requirements:

Students undertaking Electronic Engineering based courses with strong programming/software capabilities will be suitable for this placement.
