Job Description

The Aerospace IPS Centre of Excellence in Microsemi, a Microchip Company, is a R&D and production facility supporting the design, development and manufacturing of high reliability aerospace Integrated Power SolutionsTM (IPS) based in Ennis, Co. Clare, Ireland.

As the aerospace sector continues to demand higher levels of power electronics reliability and integration in order to realize the goal of more electric aircraft (MEA), Microsemi’s Aerospace IPS Centre of Excellence plays a critical role in supporting this objective.

Products from this centre include the power core module (PCM) for Commercial Aircraft and Thrust Vector Control module for Space Launchers. 

The Aerospace team in Ennis are part of the IPS group, which takes the approach of providing complete sub-system level power solutions for our customers. Our primary market is in flight critical aerospace systems. We see ourselves as partners to our customers providing differentiated solutions that address system and sub-system level challenges. We place great emphasis on validated solutions that work right the first time.

We have a number of key exciting Engineering positions in our Ennis based IPS design team.  This role executes mechanical design, packaging and thermal analysis of power and control electronics.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Take design role in technology and product developments.

  • Interpret customer specifications into design concepts.

  • Design and implement custom and standard power supply chassis and enclosures.

  • Use “SolidWorks” to design detailed models of products in development to ensure packaging designs conform to structural and interference standards.Create and maintain product drawings and mechanical specifications.

  • Use thermal simulation tools to determine product temperature profiles in conduction, convection and radiation dissipative environments.

  • Perform constraint and stress analysis on mechanical structures and select appropriate material based on customer requirements, space and aviation standards.

  • Take on other engineering duties as required and assigned.

  • Support in-house training programmes as required.

 

Job Requirements

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, SolidWorks, Thermal Modelling and Structural Modelling.

  • Candidate must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Requires the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organisation.

  • Candidate must have excellent attention to detail and Technical Writing skills.

  • Strong ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and interface well with peers and management in a corporate setting.

  • Decision-making, problem resolution and resourceful thinking skills.

  • Highly energetic, motivated and self-starter.

  • Willing to work in an environment that allows initiative and requires flexibility.
